Whiskey Bottle Soap Dispenser

Ready for an easy DIY project? I'm not even sure I'd call this a "project", but it's definitely a cute idea! Our new house has a huge living room/ bathroom in the basement, which has been claimed as the man cave...nothing girly allowed down there. This Jack Daniels soap dispenser fits right in.

Now it did take me about 6 months to "make", simply because that's how long it took me to empty the bottle. Definitely not gonna waste whiskey! Other than that, assembly took less than a minute. I found the separate soap dispenser pump at Bed, Bath and Beyond, and luckily it was a perfect fit.

To make: Wash the bottle out (try not to soak the labels), fill it with soap, screw your pump on and it's ready to go! Man cave approved!

DIY Frame "Wreath"

Since I technically still have up my Halloween wreath, I feel that I owe it to my neighbors to have a "wreath" that I can easily switch out for the Holidays. Now my sweet neighbors won't have to stare at the same wreath for months (like they really care, or notice)!

I saw somewhere (Pinterest probably) where a picture frame was used instead of a wreath for the front door. I loved that idea, and thought I'd make something similar! This was easy peasy and I've already stocked up on supplies to switch it out for St. Patty's day, and Easter...bonus points for being ahead of the game!

What I used:
-8x10 frame from Hobby Lobby. It was already shabby chic white like I wanted.. score! AND it was 50% off..double SCORE! I want to say it ended up being $10.
-Scrapbook paper
-e6000 glue (you can find this at Hobby Lobby or other craft stores I'm sure..it's usually near checkout)
-velcro
-fabric flowers
-Chalkboard, vinyl letters, dry erase maker..really whatever you want to decorate and write on it with.

Since my frame was already the color I wanted I didn't have to fiddle with painting it...but spray painting it could add even more character! So my first step was cutting my scrapbook paper down to size, and fitting that in the frame.

Next, I made yo-yo fabric flowers with scrap fabric I had lying around. Now since I'm new to this blogging thing I didn't make a tutorial on that..way to go Rachel. There are tons of tutorials for different fabric flowers floating around though...orrrr you can go the easy way and buy some pre- made! Whatever route you take, you'll need an arrangement of fabric flowers.

I wanted to be able to switch out my flowers for different holidays so I decided to attach velcro to the back of my flowers and the frame. This is where the e6000 glue comes in handy. PSA: This concoction WILL cause fingers to stick together...trust me. Super sticky.

I also knew I wanted to be able to change the wording on my frame, so I went with chalkboard vinyl. You can use chalkboard paint, vinyl letters, print something on the paper, use a dry erase marker.. just whatever suits your fancy.

Lastly, I strung some tulle behind the frame and hung her up!

I don't have a lot of spare time to create and switch out wreaths like I'd like to, so this is the perfect, simple solution for me!

Enjoy!

DIY Window Picture Frame

It's no secret that I'm a Pinterest addict. I'm sure you've seen the cute posts of old windows being refurbished into chalkboards, jewelry hangers, calendars and the list goes on and on. I stumbled across a huge, 9 pane window at a local antique mall, and just had to buy it- not sure of what I would do with it.

I finally decided it would look great as a picture display on our tall wall in the living room. I combined my love of vinyl and black and white pictures to come up with our "wedding vow frame".

It was super easy, and an inexpensive, cute way to display our wedding/ engagement pictures.

I went back and forth as to whether or not I wanted to fill all 9 panes with pictures. Ultimately I ended up cutting mine and my husband's wedding vows out of vinyl, and putting pictures in only 6 of the panes.

Aside from cutting and weeding (and weeding, and weeding, and weeding) the vinyl all I did was print 8x10 pictures at Walgreens, slapped some double stick tape in the corners and had Matt add a picture hanger to the back.

It's probably my favorite piece in our house. I couldn't be more happy with it and I love that it's a daily reminder of our commitment to each other.

After this project I'm now a window hoarder; so I'm sure I'll be adding more "window projects"!

Welcome Y'all!

Welcome, welcome! I hope you'll enjoy my blog! I love when shops have blogs or any social media outlets that allow their customers the chance to see a bit of their personal life. That's one reason small businesses are so great; you really get to know who you're buying from! That's why I'm starting this blog; not only to post about all things crafty, but to give my customers a chance to get to know the person behind The Poppy Shoppe. I love my customers, and I want them to know me and see my appreciation for them!

Now for a few fun (or not so fun) facts about myself.
1) I'm 22 years young, and slowly but surely studying to earn a bachelors in business.
2) I'm married to a sweet firefighter, Matt.

3) I have one fur baby named Bailey.
4) Before starting The Poppy Shoppe I was studying to become a Dental Hygienist.

5) I have an amazingly supportive family.
6) I have the attention span of a goldfish.
7) I'm sooo incredibly corny. My jokes are seriously the worst.
8) I worry about EVERYTHING. If I have nothing to worry about, I'll create something.
9) Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons. The colder the better.
10) I love, love traveling. Whether it's a 2 week trip, or a weekend getaway, I love seeing new places and experiencing new things.
11) I am NOT saavy when it comes to technology.
12) One profession I'd love to have knowledge of is graphic design. I so much envy you graphic design folks. I'd love to know how to make cute business cards, logos and what- nots.

That wasn't so bad, right? I hope not! Like I said, I hope this blog will act as a way for my customers to see me away from my business and also to create an outlet for me to get to know some of my customers , and meet new people!
